Tom Dunn, northern district vice president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada, has served 18 years as a firefighter for the Reno Fire Department. Tom’s role as northern district vice president is to assist the presidents of affiliate Locals in his area and to ensure their compliance with the governing rules.

In addition to his role within PFFN, Tom is the vice president of the Reno Firefighters Association. He represents the association to improve wages, benefits, and working conditions for the members. He is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with the city of Reno staff and elected officials. Tom is also responsible for addressing public safety issues that affect firefighters and the community.

Prior to his work in the fire service, Tom was a commissioned officer in the United States Army Reserve and worked as a combat engineer and with the military police. Through his experience in the military and fire service, he is certified as an urban search and rescue technician, a terrorism/fusion liaison officer, and an EMS instructor, and he is a qualified national Type 1 planning section chief.

Furthermore, Tom serves as a member of the Negotiations, Grievance, and Insurance committees for Local 731, and is a member of the Safety Committee and Employee Advisory Insurance Committee for the city of Reno. The American Red Cross has recognized him as an Everyday Hero for his work with the Mizpah Fire in Reno and for his work with the Carpenter 1 Fire in Las Vegas.

Tom is a lifelong resident of Reno. He attended Robert McQueen High School and the University of Nevada, Reno. He currently lives in Spanish Springs with his wife, Jennifer, his daughter, Katherine, and the family dog, Charlie. When Dunn is not fighting fires, Tom enjoys hiking, camping, and the great outdoors with his family.
