Marvin Carr served in fire service in Nevada for more than 40 years as a member of the Yerington Fire Department and the Central Lyon County Fire District from which he retired as chief in 1992. He was appointed state fire marshal in June after serving as executive director of the State Emergency Response Commission and as director for Emergency Management for Lyon County.
